Radiation
Protection Courses
|
|
| Since the beginning of the
1970´s radiation protection courses
were offered by the former Zentraleinrichtung
für Strahlenschutz, one of the predecessors
of IRS. These courses provide intensive
knowledge on radiation protection and on
safe handling of radioactive materials and
ionizing radiation for radiation workers
and health physics officials. These courses
are in accordance with German radiation
protection regulations (Fachkunderichtlinien
zur Strahlenschutzverordnung und zur Röntgenverordnung).
They are approved by the Niedersächsisches
Umweltministerium (Nds. Mbl. Nr. 32/1992,1293;
GMBl Nr. 28/1986, 506). In order to maintain
this acknowledgement over times to come,
the course programme is continuously actualized
with respect to the increasing differentiation
of classes of knowledge (Fachkundegruppen)
and with respect to the inclusion of the
actual status of science and technology.
|
| IRS is putting particular
emphasis on the quality of education and
an intense examination of the knowledge
achieved by the participants. This is manifested
also by participation in a "Qualitätsverbund
Strahlenschutzkursstätten". By
collaboration in the working group "Ausbildung"
of the Fachverband für Strahlenschutz
ZSR is participating in the establishment
of quality standards for education in radiation
production. This latter work is partially
done on request of the German Ministerium
für Umwelt und Reaktorsicherheit (BMU). |
| The radiation
protection courses are attended by people
from industry, from governmental institutions
and from research institutes. IRS is the
only institution in Lower Saxony offering
those courses according to StrlSchV and
RöV to such extend to external participants.
The courses are legal prerequisites to become
a radiation protection official (Strahlenschutzbeauftragter
and -verantwortlicher). During the last
decade a continuously increasing number
of participants has attended such courses.
Since 2005 the numbers of attendees increased
by more than a factor of two to presently
about 1000 particpants per year. A further
extension of the courses with respect to
frequency and topics covered is envisaged
for the future. |
